It’s 25th of May and the GDPR goes live!

As you have been informed earlier, the new European Union law on data protection has officially come into effect today, 25 May, 2018. In brief, GDPR is set to give EU citizens greater control over how companies use their personal data. In particular, all companies HAVE TO get explicit permission from users to collect and process their data.

As personal privacy is our number one priority, we have taken many actions to be compliant with GDPR. In doing so, we commit to secure your personal information and protect your right to control your data.

Here’s what Magestore has done to prepare for GDPR:

1. New privacy policy

To comply with GDPR, Magestore has worked out a new Privacy Policy page. In this page, you can find out:

  • Which information we collect
  • How we collect your information
  • How we use your information
  • How we share your information
  • Data retention period
  • Your rights

2. New cookie policy

From now on, you can always find a clear explanation about why and how we use your cookies in our Cookie Policy page. It provides you with information about:

  • What cookies are
  • Why we use cookies
  • Which types of cookies we use
  • List of cookies we collect
  • How you can control your cookies

3. Forms and consent options

As transparency and accountability are the backbone of GDPR, we have worked out how to provide our customers and subscribers a clear and explicit explanation each time we collect their data. We have created new forms with consent options so you can understand what you’re signing up for, and what will happen with your data after you fill in a form. When creating a new account, for example, you can always choose to receive our newsletters afterwards or not.

In addition to this, a new category called “personal data request” has been created on our ticket system. Now you can easily submit a request relating to your personal data.

4. Website security

To protect your data from potential risks, we have also tightened our website security to prevent unauthorized access or disclosure.  For example, we have secure connections for our administration system and IP restrictions.

5. Products and resources security

Many of our customers have businesses in the EU, so one of our main concerns is making sure our Omnichannel Solutions are compliant as well. Here are some of the changes on our products:

  • Since we offer our customers and subscribers many downloadable packages and resources, we have examined all products and resources on website to make sure they are harm-free.
  • We have added security measures such as IP restriction to our product to prevent data breach.
  • We have also prepared a document to help merchant handle data requests from their end users. This document shows where data is collected and stored in our product.

Above is a summary of highlighted changes we have made to ensure our compliance with GDPR. We are consistently working on the best way to keep your personal data safe and to give your more options to control the data collected by Magestore.

All the changes go live on 25 May 2018, on our website, blog, Zendesk, etc. We believe that these changes will help our valued customers and subscribers understand more about our data collection practices.

Thank you for your continued support for Magestore and our products! It’s always our mission to be a trustworthy partner that brings out the best of your business. If you have any questions about our privacy policy and GDPR updates, please send us a line at support@magestore.com.
