The wheels in your head should be starting to turn at this point however many new ecommerce startups tend to overthink things and automatically discredit their ideas.

I wanted to show you how easy it can be to come up with initial product ideas as well as how to do a very quick cursory search to determine if the products are worth looking into further.

I searched all of the resources and have selected 5 products that looked interesting. As a very quick product demand test we cross checked all of the ideas in Google Trends.

Yea, All of the these product ideas selected have a strong upwards market trend, making these products worthy of evaluating further

What are the top 5 trending products for 2016?

1.Matcha Power

In general, Matcha is finely milled powder green tea and has become increasing popular along with the tea category. Supermarket tea sections have exploded from carrying Red Rose to a variety of hundreds of brands in recent years.

Matcha Matcha – Matcha tea, is an increasingly popular variation of green tea, and considered to be a premium product.

Much like green tea, this product can be used as an ingredient in many other products.

The trend for matcha powder has been increasing every year since 2009 and just recently, seen a massive spike in search interest.

2.Coconut Oil Based Products

Originally, I found through a post on Facebook and discovered that coconut oil was essentially a Swiss Army knife of an ingredient. Coconut oil images kept popping up. Apparently coconut oil is a great all-in-one healthy oil that can be used for cooking, as a moisturizer, deep treatment conditioner,lip balm, makeup remover,shaving cream,  bug bites, body scrub,… .

Considered functional and healthy, you might use coconut oil for everything from cooking to making your own soaps, deodorant, toothpaste, to improving sleep, sunscreen.

A coconut oil based product makes the list. Athough I’ve heard enough about coconut oil and it’s magical properties, as an startup, I must focus on the trend, a trend that’s still continuing.

3.LED Lighting

LED Lighting .  I’ve been investing in LED lighting for several years now. While I’ve toyed with the idea of opening an online store dedicated to serving this niche, I don’t know how I would differentiate myself and add value. But this industry has massive opportunity and the market is very huge. In the coming decade, nearly all lighting eventually will be converted to LED lighting. It’s much more energy efficient, lasts exponentially longer than regular bulbs, is a lot more controllable, and safer for the environment.

This trend is only going to keep getting bigger and in particular. In my opinion, there’s really big chance with colored LED lighting for ambiance.

4.Men’s Grooming Products

Men’s Grooming Products has been trending for the last few years and it appears that the trend is continuing. You know? The ecommerce market has become pretty saturated with a lot of new companies but there’s likely still room for those that get a little more  tighten and creative their focus to serve narrow niches within the beard grooming category.

5.Green Tea

Not only has green tea consistently been climbing as a trend since the early 2000’s, but it’s  been growing for good reason. Green tea is generally healthier than other beverages in it’s category, it contains less caffeine, and most importantly. There are so many uses and variations of the product allowing the possibility for you to come up with new product ideas that incorporate green tea or green tea extract.
